Fuel Fitness FE44 Review
Machine: Fuel Fitness FE44 Elliptical
Overview: The Fuel Fitness FE44 Elliptical sets out to offer a good balance between quality construction and cool features in an affordable package. While not every component is the best of the best, Fuel designed the FE44 with a massive 19lb flywheel that ensures an incredibly fluid motion and improves stability. And while the footpads lack the luxury of cushioning, they more than make up for it in their articulating design which keeps your feet and ankles in the proper alignment all the way through each stride. The 18” stride length puts the Fuel FE44 at a good point for average height users, while taller users may prefer something longer. With 14 workout programs the FE44 provides a decent variety of challenges to help you reach your fitness goals. The backlight LCD console display isn’t as elaborate as some other brands, but it’s designed to keep things simple. Even though Fuel focuses on quality design over entertainment, it does include a satisfactory set of built-in speakers and as well as the ability to connect an MP3 player. Overlooked by some brands as an important convenience feature, the FE44 also includes a water bottle holder in a convenient location so you can stay hydrated without interrupting your routine.

Especially for such an affordable elliptical the Fuel Fitness FE44 doesn’t skimp on important features. The heavy 19lb flywheel makes it remarkably smooth and the articulating footpads provide a natural and workout with less stress on your joints.
The biggest gripe most consumers have with the FE44 is that it’s difficult to put together. It has received mixed reviews in terms of strength which seems to have more to do with improper set up than poor quality design. And although the large flywheel gives it such a fluid feel, it sets the foot pedals apart 4.5” which may be uncomfortable to some users.
The Fuel Fitness FE44 outperforms most elliptical trainers in its price range. Although it may not have as many comfort features or add-ons as some other brands, it’s a surprisingly solid piece of equipment at a very reasonable price. Even still it’s not a machine for heavy users, serious athletes or more than 1 or 2 frequent users.
