Strengths:
The smooth glide, as described above is also a quiet one, which is great for keeping the peace in the household and for watching TV as your workout. Don't let the size of the Schwinn elliptical 420 fool you, this elliptical is a beast. Its BioDyne performance features a perimeter-weighted flywheel with high inertia for smooth, consistent workouts.
Weaknesses:
As far as convenience, the Schwinn 420 elliptical trainer does not have a fan, water bottle or reading rack - which gives it a low score in that department. Along the same lines, the console is not backlit and the DIY programs can be confusing, not to mention pretty useless to novices. As with other Schwinn trainers, there is no sound technology on board the Schwinn elliptical 420. Users have reported that the first resistance level can be a bit tough for beginners or those who are a bit out of shape.
The Skinny:
If you’re an elliptical (or at least a workout) veteran looking for a long lasting, versatile machine that can withstand a real workout beating, the Schwinn 420 elliptical trainer is a good choice. If you’re out of shape, do be sure to try this model out before buying, as you may be discouraged by the difficult lower levels and lack of easy to use programs. Despite its compact size and its budget price, with the Schwinn elliptical 420, you'll get an excellent workout on a durable machine that's built to last. If you're in the market for bells and whistles, look elsewhere....but be prepared to deal with less than stellar construction and a few squeaks and shakes.
